An overview on sea star’s art of renewal and regeneration

Starfish represents and symbolizes renewal and regeneration. Similarly, there are many occasions in our lives where we need to renew ourselves. As waves of change wash over,the need to keep renewing ourselves is a constant. When a starfish is attacked they have the ability to detach one of their arms to escape or distract. Thus,providing it with a better chance of survival.

However, a couple of years ago a plague hit the star fish population, and the species faced a huge number of population loss. Some types even nearing endangerment. But interestingly, a particular ochre sea star is holding it’s fort, and has infact increased it’s numbers of survivors.

When researchers compared the ochre starfish’s DNA before and after the outbreak, it was found that the young population thriving today developed a Gene that resists the virus.

Infact, they have developed an ability to adapt to the events and fluctuations with greater resilience. Only their evolution to withstand the drastic effects of the stormy sea will ensure their survival.
